El Dorado County Veteran Services: Serving Those Who Served

by | Nov 4, 2024

In the heart of California’s Gold Country, the El Dorado County Veteran Services office stands as a beacon of support for the brave men and women who’ve donned the uniform here in Placerville, California. This isn’t your run-of-the-mill government office—it’s a place where heroes are honored, and help is always on hand.

The Mission

With over 17,000 local veterans calling El Dorado County home, the Veteran Services office has its work cut out. But don’t worry, they’re not afraid of a challenge. They thrive on it. Their mission? To ensure every veteran knows about and claims the benefits they’ve earned through their service to our country.

Think of them as the Sherlock Holmes of veteran benefits – always on the case, leaving no stone unturned. From education benefits to medical care, from Cal-Vet home loans to disability pensions, these folks know the ins and outs of every program available. And the best part? They do all the heavy lifting for you.

The Dream Team

Now, let’s meet the crack team that makes it all happen. First up is Jon Brown, the Veterans Service Officer. Jon’s not just pushing papers – he’s been there, done that. As a former Airborne Scout in the US Army, he knows firsthand what serving means. Jon’s journey from intern to top dog is a testament to his dedication to helping fellow veterans.

Then there’s Julie Limbaugh, a Veterans Service Representative with a background in emergency medicine. Julie’s the one you want in your corner when things get tough. She’s been helping veterans navigate the system since 2018, and she’s not stopping anytime soon.

Tisha Holy joined the team in 2023, bringing a wealth of experience from her time with the American Red Cross. She’s seen it all, from disaster response during 9/11 to helping military families in crisis. Now, she’s putting that expertise to work for El Dorado County’s veterans.

Chris Diggins is the group’s tech guru. After eight years in the Navy as an Information Systems Technician, Chris traded in his sailor’s cap for a chance to help fellow veterans navigate the often choppy waters of benefits and services.

Last but not least is Sharon Neu, the newest addition to the team. Sharon’s connection to the military runs deep with a Vietnam veteran father and a child in the USMC. She brings a unique perspective and a passion for outdoor adventures to the office.

The Services

So, what exactly does this dream team do? Well, buckle up because the list is longer than a CVS receipt.

First and foremost, they’re all about that paperwork. Need help filing a disability claim? They’ve got you covered. Can’t find your DD-214? No problem, they’ll track it down faster than you can say “semper fi.” Medical records gone AWOL? They’ll help you round them up.

But it’s not just about forms and files. These folks are like the Swiss Army knife of veteran services – they do it all. Need help getting VA health care? They’ll walk you through the process step by step. Looking for information on education benefits? They’ve got all the details at their fingertips.

And let’s not forget about the dependents. The El Dorado County Veteran Services team knows that when one person serves, the whole family serves. That’s why they’re committed to helping spouses and children access the benefits they’re entitled to.

The Office

You might be thinking, “This all sounds great, but when can I actually see these wonderful people?” Well, good news – they’re open Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM. But wait, there’s more! They offer appointments on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays and even have walk-in hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

And for those veterans in South Lake Tahoe, don’t worry—they haven’t forgotten about you. The team makes the trek up to the mountains on the second and third Tuesdays of each month. Just give them a call to set up an appointment.

The Bottom Line

The El Dorado County Veteran Services office is more than a government agency. Veterans can find support, guidance, and a friendly face. Whether you’re a newly discharged service member trying to figure out your next steps or a long-time veteran looking to access new benefits, this team has your six.

So, if you’re a veteran in El Dorado County, don’t be a stranger. Stop by their office at 330 Fair Lane in Placerville, call them at (530) 621-5892, or check out their website. Remember, these benefits are yours – you’ve earned them. And the folks at El Dorado County Veteran Services are here to ensure you get every last of them.

In the words of the great military strategist Hannibal, “We will either find a way or make one.” That’s the spirit that drives the El Dorado County Veteran Services team every day. They’re not just serving veterans—they’re serving up solutions, one hero at a time.
